Marathon Lateral and Sewer Connections -

What You Need to Know

DON’T BE DISAPPOINTED - START YOUR PROPERTY WORK NOW

The City of Marathon’s sewer system is a huge undertaking and is somewhat complicated.  In fact, the project is so big that the City has divided the island’s wastewater project into six separate areas.  Each service area has a defined project schedule which can be viewed on the City of Marathon web site.  In order to manage the magnitude of required property connections, the City is ENCOURAGING homeowners to start the work on the lateral connection NOW. When the full sewer system is online, the City will issue property owners a  30-Day notice of system availability, then you simply call us back for the final connection and inspection to the City’s sewer system.  Call us today or send us and email to schedule your free assessment and receive our free property owners checklist for connecting. STEPS TO CONNECTING

  1. (1)City releases individual street “Right of Way” completion to signal that work can begin on your property

  2. (2)Work begins to lay out the routing of the pipe from your home to the city connection (see typical layout)

  3. (3)Apply for both required permits - building and sewer abandonment (they are separate county offices - so let us do it to minimize your hassle).  Homeowner may be required to notarize the permits

  4. (4)Start excavation with our specialized equipment and install all pipe according to building code and tolerances

  5. (5)Video inspect to ensure no rocks or debris have entered the pipe which will compromise the sewer system.  Pipe will be capped off and trench will be completely backfilled until sewer system availability

  6. (6)Once sewer system is officially available, we will conduct final video inspection and perform static head test in order to pass the final inspection with the City

  7. (7)City will install the valve assembly and place the system into operation
